Beautiful Geek

Youre such a beautiful freak
I wish there were more just like you
Youre not like all of the others

And that is why I love you
Beautiful freak, beautiful freak
That is why I love you
Beautiful freak, beautiful freak

Some people think you have a problem
But that problem lies only with them
Just cause you are not like the others

But that is why I love you
Beautiful freak, beautiful freak
Yeah that is why I love you
Beautiful freak, beautiful freak

Too good for this world
But I hope you will stay
And Ill be here to see that you dont fade away

Youre such a beautiful freak
I bet you are flying inside
Dart down and then go for cover

And know that i
I love you
Beautiful freak,
You know that i
I love you
Beautiful freak, beautiful freak

Video of the day: A literal Take On Me

I had to blog this because it's such a great idea and done really well.

I loved the original video which, at the time, just seemed so... well... original.

This little remix does take the piss a little, but I don't care because it's just so well done.

*Chuckling still*

Buy Stuff “As Seen On YouTube” With New Click-to-Buy Platform

Well about bloody time... I'm really surprised it took this long after the GOOG bought the TUBE.

I remember wanting this kind of interaction when I was a kid... 'why can't I just press a button on the remote control and BUY the Transformer toy they are showing me?', I thought.

Now it's 2008, I'm too old for Transformers and I've got less disposable income then ever, let alone pocket money. :(

I don't think now, as a adult, I'll use this very often. I might by the occasional MP3, but I doubt it'll be very many. I mainly use YouTube so I don't have to buy stuff... I watch snippets of classic shows and re-runs and the chances of me buying the box-set is very low indeed.

Still... I like the fact interaction as got us this far.

Getting Things Done

Realising I'm totally distracted by my Outlook folders... especially the ones with little numbers, in brackets and bold. I've found I can now hide the folders, Alt-F1, and bring up the more focused views I need with Ctrl+1, Ctrl+2 and, the killer move..., Ctrl-Y which opens any folder I need for total zoom into the task in hand.

Gift: No

Cons: Waste of money

Best Uses: None

Erm... I've got one of these, but I stripped it down, it uses no power (no batteries to replace at all) and is easily upgraded by adding extra... um... let's call them "hooks".

Yes. "Hooks". You get a "hook", I can sell you one for $10, and you screw the "hook" into the wall where the "Wireless Key Finder" might have been placed.

When you get home, simply place your key on the "hook device" and through the power of gravity and other Physical Laws technology (tm) you'll find your key is there when you next need it.

Quote of the day - Sam Harris on Sarah Palin

"I believe Governor Palin's speech was the most effective political communication I have ever witnessed. Here, finally, was a performer who—being maternal, wounded, righteous and sexy—could stride past the frontal cortex of every American and plant a three-inch heel directly on that limbic circuit that ceaselessly intones "God and country." If anyone could make Christian theocracy smell like apple pie, Sarah Palin could."

'Losing Sight of Progress' by Christopher Hitchens - Slate - RichardDawkins.net

As much as I hate to love Christopher Hitchens his recent Slate piece, reprinted on RichardDawkins.net [1], is a lovely inversion of logic, the kind that makes me happy to see the world anew for a few moments.

I'm reminded also of a recent poll on Integral Praxis [2]. The question 'What do you think is the future of our species?' elicited a response of "Transcendence" from 52% of the respondents.

All very nice, and I'm sure almost all of them would favour evolution over creationism, but perhaps this is merely a vestigial belief from the days of creationist thought? Why do only 20% think "Extinction" is a more likely fate for the human race? Belief in "transcendence" not only sounds new-agey religious, but it totally smacks of wishful-thinking... let's face it, no other species, ever, has survived for more than a 100,000 years, why would we?

That's my daily rant done. As you were.

Goodbye My Love, goodbye

Fire runs through my body with the pain of loving you.
Pain runs through my body with the fires of my love for you.
Pain like a boil about to burst with my love for you.
Consumed by fire of my love for you.
I remember what you said to me,
I am thinking of your love for me.
I am torn by your love for me.
Pain and more pain.
Where are you going with my love?
I'm told you will go from here.
I'm told you will leave me here.
My body is numb with grief.
Remember what I said My Love
Goodbye My Love, goodbye.

Magnetic Movie: The Colors of Magnetic Fields

The film follows Scientists from NASA’s Space Sciences Laboratory excitedly describing their discoveries while the animation of Jarmne and Gerhardt bring to life their descriptions with visualizations of the magnetic life all around us.-This is an awesome piece of animation. It reminds me of being in HalfLife for the first time... something real is going on and, for the first time, I can see the alien life around me. I wish NASA made more videos like this, it's a wonderful way of visualising what's-really-going-on and this kind of blend of trippy-ness and education make for my favourite kind of viewing. More... please!

Night and Day

Like the beat beat beat of the tom-tom

When the jungle shadows fall

Like the tick tick tock of the stately clock

As it stands against the wall

Like the drip drip drip of the raindrops

When the summer shower is through

So a voice within me keeps repeating

You, you, you

Night and day, you are the one

Only you beneath the moon or under the sun

Whether near to me, or far

It's no matter darling where you are

I think of you

Day and night, night and day, why is it so

That this longing for you follows wherever I go

In the roaring traffic's boom

In the silence of my lonely room

I think of you

Day and night, night and day

Under the hide of me

There's an oh such a hungry yearning burning inside of me

And this torment won't be through

Until you let me spend my life making love to you

Day and night, night and day

Hurt

I hurt myself today
to see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
the only thing that's real
the needle tears a hole
the old familiar sting
try to kill it all away
but I remember everything
what have I become?
my sweetest friend
everyone I know
goes away in the end
you could have it all
my empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt
I wear this crown of shit
upon my liar's chair
full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
beneath the stain of time
the feeling disappears
you are someone else
I am still right here
what have I become?
my sweetest friend
everyone I know
goes away in the end
you could have it all
my empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt
if I could start again
a million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way

The Journey of the Magi

"...were we led all that way for

Birth or Death? There was a Birth, certainly,

We had evidence and no doubt. I had seen birth and death,

But had thought they were different; this Birth was

Hard and bitter agony for us, like Death, our death,

We returned to our places, these Kingdoms,

But no longer at ease here, in the old dispensation,

With an alien people clutching their gods.

I should be glad of another death."

-- T. S. Eliot

I don't want to get over you. I guess I could take
a sleeping pill and sleep at will and not have to
go through what I go through. I guess I should take
Prozac, right, and just smile all night at somebody new,
Somebody not too bright but sweet and kind who would
try to get you off my mind. I could leave this agony behind
which is just what I'd do if I wanted to, but I don't
want to get over you cause I don't want to get over love.
I could listen to my therapist, pretend you don't exist
and not have to dream of what I dream of; I could listen
to all my friends and go out again and pretend it's enough,
or I could make a career of being blue--I could dress
in black and read Camus, smoke clove cigarettes and drink
vermouth like I was 17 that would be a scream but I
don't want to get over you.

"Only"

I'm becoming less defined as days go by
Fading away
And well you might say
I'm losing focus
Kinda drifting into the abstract in terms of how I see myself

Sometimes I think I can see right through myself [x2]
Sometimes I can see right through myself

Less concerned about fitting into the world
Your world that is
Cause it doesn't really matter anymore
(no it doesn't really matter anymore)
No it doesn't really matter anymore
None of this really matters anymore

Yes I am alone but then again I always was
As far back as I can tell
I think maybe it's because
Because you were never really real to begin with
I just made you up to hurt myself

[x2]
I just made you up to hurt myself, yeah
And I just made you up to hurt myself

And it worked.
Yes it did!

[Chorus:]
There is no you
There is only me
There is no you
There is only me
There is no fucking you
There is only me
There is no fucking you
There is only me

Only [x4]

Well the tiniest little dot caught my eye and it turned out to be a scab
And I had this funny feeling like I just knew it's something bad
I just couldn't leave it alone, I kept picking at the scab
It was a doorway trying to seal itself shut
But I climbed through

Now I am somewhere I am not supposed to be, and I can see things I know I really shouldn't see
And now I know why, now, now, now I know why
Things aren't as pretty
On the inside

[Chorus]

Only [x8]

Patrick Sweeney - Realizing Ordinary Mind

Dharma2.0

"Patrick offers a beautiful discussion of nondual consciousness, the nameless, effortless, self-liberating quality of awareness in which all distinctions between self and other, this and that, inside and outside fall away completely, leaving only the brilliant clarity of this very Moment, exactly as it is. Although this 'Ordinary Mind' is and always has been the ever-present condition of consciousness, the separate self somehow rarely seems to notice that which it always already is—in fact, it is fair to say that the majority of our actions and intentions as human beings are in avoidance of this simple recognition, with all its ego-shattering implications. However, we have all experienced this radical One Taste many times in the course of our lives, if even for the briefest of moments. Patrick mentions accidents, orgasms, and death as typical moments of spontaneous and profound realization, but these experiences tend to occur whenever the normal continuity of life becomes suddenly disrupted—during which people tend to report radically altered states of experience, including a sense of time dilation, an overwhelming feeling of peace or oneness with the world, and everything simply becomes much more vivid, vibrant, and present. Unfortunately, it can be all too easy to miss these experiences without a stable contemplative practice, which helps train our capacity to be persistently aware of ourselves and our environments, making it much easier to recognize our own Original Face whenever it chooses to reveal itself."

Bloody Barclays

Has anyone else had to apply for a PINsentry device for Barclays Online Banking?

PINsentry

Despite being the victim of a cyber-fraud last year (I lost £200 to a Polish dude who somehow bought my pin from someone somewhere) I STILL think Barclays are being totally paranoid and over the top.

When asked to order the magic-device I thought it was just for setting up new payments and payees.

But no... I have to use it everytime I log in to my online banking.

Logging in is a painful, 6-step, process: entering all the usual details, numbers, random letters from password, then 4 digits from my card. I then add my pin to the device to identify myself and then have to provide the resulting 8-digit code to my online login.

Setting up a new payment requires me to enter all the details online, then all of them again on device (including their a/c number, sort code, amount) and then put a code from device back online.

It is, slightly quicker to do than to explain, but is it really necessary?

Every Barclays customer is being forced to 'upgrade' to this new plastic toy.

But won't it be hacked within time anyway? It's just an algorythm I'm guessing.

After setting up the payment I also get a text saying "a transaction has been set up, please contact us if it's fraudulent".

A little OTT?

TOP 50 ALBUMS OF 2007 - Paul Hillier & Theatre of Voices - Stockhausen: Stimmung

Harmonia Mundi / 186431

"Stimmung is one of the masterpieces of the last half century... in essence it is a vast elaboration of a single six-note chord based on the overtones of the note B flat, it never seems to stale in performance, partly because of the extraordinary variety of rhythm, attack and colour that Stockhausen generates within the 51 "models" into which he divides the 70-minute piece....
This is only the third commercial recording of Stimmung.. which places the voices (three female, three male) in a more spacious acoustic than before, far closer to what you experience when Stimmung is performed live, and lending even more enchantment to this extraordinary work."
The Guardian.
